DANCEHALL REPORT CONTENT

Hello New England Reggae Fans,

Welcome to the Dancehall Reggae Report, New England's premier source of live reggae concert information. We hope this information is both informative and entertaining. We also welcome your feedback and suggestions. Visit our feedback form online.

If any one questioned Boston's validity as one of the US top five markets for reggae music, it was answered last month on March 29, 2001. On March 29th Boston and Cambridge both hosted two successful reggae events on the same night. Culture Played the Middle East and Luciano played the Avalon. Although both events had different start time, unlike NYC, Boston has a curfew of 2AM and a population fare less than that of the big apple.  So, this was impressive.

Boston’s emergence as a solid reggae market is new news to many; however, Boston has been a strong market for reggae music for many years. Unfortunately, Boston’s elite media tends to ignore reggae events that take place within the heart of Boston's Caribbean community versus those downtown. However, the uptown events are usually more successful, entertaining, and well attended. For example, Sizzla, Lady Saw, and Sanchez where all sold out events held last year at Boston's Caribbean Cultural Center.

If you haven't attended a reggae event at the Caribbean Cultural Center, you are missing out on the best reggae experience in New England outside of Kingston Jamaica. Reggae music is much more than just drum, bass, strings, and words strung together. It's the heart and soul of the Caribbean people and that heart and soul comes alive every weekend within the Caribbean Communities of Dorchester. Check it out and bring a friend! You'll feel like your back at a session back ina yard!
